CYNERGY THOUGHTS: Be In Your Boots

Perhaps it’s just me, but lately there seems to be a “buzz” around mindfulness and meditation. Oprah and Deepak Chopra just offered a Free 21 day mediation experience (which was awesome by the way), seminars seem to be popping up all over the city and recently my best friend attended a mindfulness conference in San Diego.

When she came home from the conference she was explaining to a few of our close friends some of the lessons she learned while away.

“Be where your feet are, “she said.

“What does that mean?” one of the girls asked.

“Your feet are here, so that’s where you need to be. Not in the past, not in the future. Just here.”

It’s so simple, yet so hard to do, isn’t it?

We spend so much time dwelling on past incidents and worrying about future situations that may or may not come to pass.

As the night went on, we kept coming back to being mindful. If one of us mentioned we were upset about something that happened a few weeks prior or that we were concerned about something that was scheduled in the future, someone else would say, “Be where your feet are”.

After a few glasses of wine, someone was telling a story when suddenly one of my girlfriends shouted “BE IN YOUR BOOTS”!

We looked at her and burst out laughing, but it stuck.

Now, when I realize that I am thinking about the past or future, I stop and tell myself to Be in Your Boots.

It makes me laugh and reminds me to keep focused on the present. The past is over and the future will unfold exactly as it should.

Just a thought.
